Despite coming up short in the Bedlam Series, the University of Oklahoma Sooners get an honor from the three game set. Tyler Ogle has been named by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as the National Hitter of the Week. His batting average for the last four games is .647, with four home runs, a double, eight runs scored, and 11 RBIs.
A Tulsa basketball standout has made a verbal commitment to play his college ball at Oral Roberts University. Korey Billbury was a key player in Booker T. Washington’s second straight 5A championship, and averaged 15 points per game as a senior at BTW. He is the first Washington player to commit to ORU since Nate Harris in 1971.
The University of Tulsa women finished with a second place trophy at the C-USA golf tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Marita Engzelius, a TU junior finished third overall.
The Golden Eagles women at ORU captured their 14th straight Summit League golfing title at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nevada, with a 26 stroke advantage. Tiffany Robbins of ORU finished second overall.
If there is a season, the NFL has a schedule to go with it. Sam Bradford will lead the St. Louis Cardinals against the Carolina Panthers in the season opener September 11 in St. Louis. Kansas City will host Buffalo at noon that same day. The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Buffalo for Sunday night football against the Bills, with kickoff at 7:20pm. The New Orleans Saints start their season a little earlier, with a September 8 game on the road against the Green Bay Packers.
