He averaged 1.2 points and that same figure in rebounds as a sophomore, averaging 7.3 minutes per game. Despite the limited time and totals, Jarred Shaw had been expected to be a contributor to the Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball program in the 2011-2012 season.

Coach Travis Ford granted Shaw a release from the program on Thursday.

Shaw becomes the second OSU player to request a release since the end of the 2011 season. Duncanville, Texas native Roger Franklin asked to be released from his OSU committment to be able to attend college closer to his home town, and has signed a letter of intent with North Texas.

In forwarding his request to Ford, Franklin said his father’s ailing health was a factor, in addition to the limited number of minutes he was able to play at OSU.

Shaw, a 6-10 post player had made limited appearances from the bench during his sophomore year.

Ford wished the players “nothing but the best” in extending releases, and says the remaining squad is dedicated to “competing every day and committed our program on a daily basis.”
