It’s a perfect example of why every parent with a child leaving the country should have a current passport. If something happens, every parent wants to be at the side of their child.
The Colorado Rockies are trying to assist in procuring documents that would allow the parents of Major League pitcher Juan Nicasio to travel to the US from their home in the Dominican Republic. Nicasio was struck by a line drive Friday night while on the pitcher’s mound for the Rockies.
Officials say Nicasio is resting comfortably after undergoing surgery on Saturday to repair a broken vertebra.
The former Tulsa Driller was called up in May, bypassing Triple-A ball to head straight to the majors, and was in the early innings against the Washington Nationals when he was hit by a line drive off the bat of Ian Desmond.
CT scans have indicated that the internal bleeding that resulted from the blow has not increased, and a Rockies spokesman says Nicasio is in serious but stable condition. Early indications are that the 24-year old will be able to make a full recovery.
He’s been placed on the injured reserve list and there is already speculation that the young star might be able to resume his pitching career at some point.
Nicasio was visited in the hospital by Esmil Rogers, who is also on the Rockies roster and the only other Colorado player from the Dominican Republic.
